About Our Maine Getaway
Questions
Is the house on a lake?
Our Maine Getaway is situated above Long Lake in Harrison, Maine, one mile from public boat launches and beaches. The house is not on the water, but you’ll enjoy the privacy of no visible neighbors, and we have room to park a trailer/boat if you would like to bring your own.
It says 4 bedrooms - are they all enclosed?
Yes, because sleeping in during your vacation without having someone walk by and wake you up is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Ours is not a “bunkhouse” vacation rental. All 4 bedrooms are enclosed and each has a closet. We have a daybed/trundle in the open loft over the living room that younger kids enjoy as a lounge or sleeping area.
Are the beds comfortable?
We think so! The worst is having a family vacation where one or more family members are stuck sleeping on a pullout couch. All 4 bedrooms have new (and comfortable) pillow top innerspring mattresses. The daybed/trundle bed unit has regular innerspring mattresses. In the grand suite, the sectional couch will fold down to convert into a queen-size bed when used with the ottoman. Some families enjoy having little ones close at hand. If this is you, we have extra bedding on hand.
I hope there's air conditioning?
Our Maine Getaway has forced air heating and AC throughout the main area of the house. The open concept living area and the atrium/sun room have large ceiling fans to move air around, and the grand suite bedroom has a mini-split heating/AC unit. The sun room/atrium and basement are not heated, but in the heat of summer, the cool basement is a popular spot for lounging or playing games.
Is there a grocery store or take out close by?
You’ll be one mile from the center of Harrison, Maine where you can shop at a convenience store or get food to-go from several establishments. Bridgton is a 10 minute drive, with several large grocery stores, a weekend farmer’s market, food trucks, and more to-go options. We don’t have door dash or food delivery services in this area, but you’ll find menus in the house to place your to-go orders.
Will I have cell service here?
That is always a wise question to ask in Maine, which is notorious for random dead zones. Cell service is decent at the house, but we strongly suggest using wi-fi to assist calls. We have high speed internet that can handle streaming, gaming, and phone calls. There will be dead spots on the lakes and driving through some neighboring towns. If someone is desperate to reach you, texting can often get through when calls fail.
What if I can't figure out how to work something?
Reach out to us, we’re not far away and we want your experience to be a great one. There is info at the house about operating instructions, rules, etc. but if there is anything you can’t figure out, don’t hesitate to ask. Texting is the best option.
What if something gets damaged?
Things happen… if something gets broken or damaged, please let us know as soon as possible by text or phone. Depending on what the issue is, we can get a replacement, bring in a repairman, or stop by to assess. As owners, we have a lot of “vacation house pride,” and since we are not far away, we can easily pop by to take a look or resolve the problem.
Do I have to clean the house before checking out?
No need to strip sheets or go overboard, we only ask you do the following before departing:
- Load and start the dishwasher
- Place garbage and recycling in the garage trash cans
- Please leave the outdoor grill in the condition you found it, and let us know if the gas is running low
- Turn down/off the heat/AC
- Start a load of towels in the washing machine (hot water)
Our cleaner will arrive soon after your departure, and these steps truly help us out, to be able to make the house ready for our next guests. We appreciate it!
What is the best way to get to Our Maine Getaway?
Fly in or drive, but know there are very few taxi or limo services around, and no Uber or Lyft operators. The closest airport is Eastern Slope Regional Airport in Fryeburg, a 36 minute drive, for charter jets and small planes. Go Rental cars are available on site for your arrival, and they can assist with other rental car agencies if needed. Portland International Jetport is an hour away, with regularly scheduled flights, charter jets, and several rental car companies onsite. Logan Airport in Boston is a 2 hour, 45 minute drive.
